Roadtrip? Why not take the bus?

Jan-31-2008 By karen

Few amongst us can resist the desire to explore the myriad of west coast hot spots. The sandy beaches of San Diego, the booming metropolis of San Francisco, the sleepless city of Las Vegas, the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles. Sadly, many find their wanderlust to be crushed by the cost and efforts of driving to said destinations. People would rather save the cash and time spent in traffic than venture out on their own. But now a new option is being provided that gives renewed hope to homebound travelers.

Megabus is an intercity express bus that was first developed in the U.S. in the Midwest city of Chicago. Starting in August, this Chicago-based firm will begin offering trips at the amazingly low cost of $1 from San Diego to Los Angeles. Operating out of Los Angeles, Megabus will provide its services to and from several distinguished cities including San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.

The ticket pricing basically works under the same premise as discount airfare tickets:

“A limited number of seats are priced at $1 plus a 50-cent booking fee… Fares increase as the departure date nears and the bus begins to fill.” (San Diego Union-Tribune)
